The ‘Getting to know you’ meme

I’ve been tagged! It’s been awhile….

Merilee of Not Enough Words was the tagger, and the subject seems timely and appropriate, don’t you think?

1. If you could have any superpower, what would you have? Why?

The power of ‘Save States’.

This is how it works:

OK, so I save a specific moment in time, right? And, providing things don’t work out way I want them to in the ensuing moments, I can reload to that point in time, getting another chance.

And only I am aware of what’s happening, and I can do it as often as I want.

So say I’m playing HORSE against somebody. If I miss my shots, I can keep reloading back to before I took each shot until I make them all.

Say it’s the start of the weekend and I have stuff to get done, but I also want to lay around and be lazy. Well, now I can screw around and get rested up, then reload back to the beginning of the weekend.

Say I want to enjoy everything a theme park has to offer in one day. I keep reloading that day and doing different things until I’m sick of the park.

Say I’m a contestant on the game show ‘Jeopardy!’– Save before each question, and ch-ching!

Say I’m about to eat a delicious cheesecake … well, you get the point. Sure, I could use it for heroic purposes, too. But that’s the beauty of this power; It would come in handy all the time.

2. Who is your style icon?

Zoolander. No, honestly I don’t know. This is a strange question. I will say that I don’t like wearing clothing that has writing or logos on it. I just don’t like being a walking advertisement for clothing companies.

3. What is your favorite quote?

I don’t have a single favorite quote.

“Destinations are often a surprise to the destined.”

- Thessaly, from ‘Sandman: The Kindly Ones’

“There are many like me who have killed their emotions. Remember that.”

- Shadow, from ‘Final Fantasy VI’

“You’ll use it, boy, and as long as you hate using it, you would use it more wisely than most men would.
If ever you don’t hate it any longer, then will be the time to throw it as far as you can and run the other way.”

- Elyas, of Perrin’s axe, from ‘The Eye of the World’

4. What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

“Your baby is so cute. He looks just like you!”

5. What playlist/cd is in your CD player/iPod right now?

I really only listen to mp3s on occasion. Right now I guess I’ve been humming this song a lot, thanks to recently playing The Beatles: Rock Band.

6. Are you a night owl or a morning person?

I used to be a night owl. But then I got married, had a kid, got a job at a place that operates during normal business hours, and so now I’m a morning person. And I couldn’t stay up all night even if I wanted to.

7. Do you prefer dogs or cats?

I’ve had plenty of both, and I have a very sweet Bassett Hound right now. But I’ve always preferred cats. They calm me. They can be just as loving and cuddly as dogs, and they’re easier to take care of to boot.

8. What is the meaning behind your blog name?

Five Rings is the title of a project I’ve been working on for a long time. A novel. It’s complete, in rough-draft form, and the so-called first revision has been taking me forever.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope that helped you get to know me better!
Now, to tag people. How about everybody who’s signed up to do NPI? Well, that is, everybody that hasn’t already done this meme (I’ve heard it’s been around the blogosphere for awhile). May you have fun, should you choose to accept it.
  1. I like the idea of “save states”! What was the film called, the one where the man relived groundhog day again and again? He used that extra time to learn to play the piano, to ice sculpture, etc…. And I kept thinking, if I had to relive a day over and over I would totally learn loads of skills. :-)
  2. That would be ‘Groudhog Day’ ;D
    Was a great movie, in fact, one of the best!
    I’m totally with you on that use of the power. It’s just not fair, is it? heheheheh
    I was thinking … imagine if a guy with this power joined the X-Men. All the other mutants would probably be wondering what the heck a normal guy with no apparent powers is doing in their group. For a while, anyway…
  3. [...] Getting to know you; getting to know all about you Posted on September 29, 2010 by haycat I don’t normally do these, but I figured in the spirit of NPI I would hop on the bandwagon, just this once, since Ryan asked so nicely. [...]
