Top 10 favorite movies of 1979

Didn’t see this coming, did you?

A lot of people don’t realize I consider myself a movie buff. It helps that I don’t have cable TV and do have a Netflix subscription. But anyway, I want to keep myself in the posting habit. So here I am, sharing my top 10 favorite movies from the year I was born: 1979.

1. Apocalypse Now

2. Alien

3. Rocky 2

4. The Jerk

5. Real Life

6. The Amityville Horror

7. The Muppet Movie

8. Escape from Alcatraz

9. The Warriors

10. Moonraker

I started working on a brighter layout. So once again I’m brushing up on things like Java and PHP. I also procured a copy of Adobe Photoshop CS4 and have made a few graphics already.

And I’m working on a secret project involving NPI that may or may not come to fruition :)

  2. Hi, Nick!
Remember me? I know, I haven’t been around for a long time, but hey, I haven’t disappeared from the face of the Earth yet. In fact, I’m back, and I’m writing a new story.
    How are things with you?

  3. @Merrilee:
Yeah, Alien came out just two years after Star Wars. I think it gave us one of the best ‘tough’ female leads ever, up there with Silence of the Lambs’ Clarice Starling and Terminator’s Sarah Conner.
    @packsister:
Of course I remember you! How are you doing?? Are you blogging again? Please share about your latest project :)

  4. I’ve had some ups and downs along the road in the last half a year, and I had to put my werewolf story aside in a hope for more inspiration in the future. For a while I was struggling with it and a new story at the same time, but then the new story won me over. I don’t know if I really should start a blog for it, but I’m writing, and it goes well enough, so I feel I could use a NPI right now.
How about you? What are you working on?

  5. Well, I’m working on the same thing I was when you last checked in: Revising this novel.

I’ve been moving forward fairly steadily these days, but the end is still far away.

Merrilee might be doing a Creativity Clinic soon to encourage people to write lots short stories. I’m going to give it a go, it should be a nice break from the novel. Maybe you can join, too?

  6. A fellow movie buff! I always consider Blade Runner & The Thing to have a special place in my heart from my year of birth, ’82.

  7. Short stories? I could never quite fit any of my ideas into a short story, I tend to create whole worlds at once. Which means: I could use the practise. I’ll have a look!
And how does the revising go for you? Does it make you happier with your story than you were at the first draft?

  8. @RG: The Thing? I never got to around to watching that. *adds to queue*

@packsister: Revising makes me happier with my story, yes. The problem is it takes a lot more work to sustain the same level of quality as I go. But it’s worth it.

  9. Hey, I’m back with a new blog. Check it out! Just click on my name in this comment, it’ll take you there. My old blog about the werewolf story is abandoned for now, so you can replace the link in your blogroll, if you like. I even made a post introducing the idea and my characters there, so if you have the time and wish, you’re always welcome!

  10. I’m not going to lie — I have not seen most of those movies. :P But it’s not because I haven’t wanted to, they’re all very popular films that I hope to get around to watch soon!

Btw, I have missed your blog! I come and read occasionally (I rarely have interweb time anymore now that I am working full-time) but I am eager to read some of your older posts to see how the NPI and writing as come along. :)

    You’ll see more of me!

Btw, best wishes to you and the family. I hope you three are doing well!

  11. omigosh! It’s so good to see you again! How’s chris doing?
You won’t find a whole lot of non-NPI posts from me since you’ve left. I’ve been going through a posting slump similar to yours ever since the baby came and I got a full-time job, too. Don’t worry, though, you always get bit by the posting bug again sooner or later.
The NPIs have been going great (although almost everybody got knocked-out last time) and I’ve been writing a heckuvalot. So, all’s well on the writing front.
Family’s doing great, too. You shouldn’t forget about Vivi the dog! :)

  12. He’s doing great. Busy teaching & excited for his summer vacation! I envy him because of that, haha. Wish I got paid for sitting around for two months… :P

I didn’t know you had a dog! Or maybe I just forgot? What kind is Vivi? :)

Good to hear that you have been writing a lot lately, that’s great! I’m really curious about this Creativity Workshop that I saw on your recent blog entry… I will have to go back and read that. :)

    Glad all is well!!
