Done watchin’?

Woo-hoo! Here we are, at the dawn of 2010, feeling accomplished already; who needs New Years Resolutions?

Writing every day isn’t an easy thing to do, it’s one of the biggest hurdles an aspiring writer has to face. But it couldn’t hurt to resolve to write (almost) everyday from here on forward, could it? :)

The break-down:

  1. A “Knock-out” is 0-249 words. (After the three Days of Reprieve are exhausted!)
  2. An “Update” is 250-999 words.
  3. A “Session” is 1,000-1,667 words.
  4. A “Tougher-than-NaNo” is anything greater than 1,667.
  5. A “THE END!” is when you’ve completed your WIP and type ‘THE END’.

Julie started right at day 1 and stuck with it to the end, taking a well-deserved day off on the 31st. She finished with a grand total of  12,142 words! And she’s the only person who survived NPI with a Day of Reprieve left over. Amazing? Impressive? I think so! :) Bravo!

THE CONSENSUS:

Bring forth the champagne! Kiss the nearest person! You wrote every day and didn’t even need ta’ wait ’til it was time to create your New Year’s resolutions to do it!

Before I go any further, I’d like to thank everyone that took time out of their Decembers to participate. I know it can be difficult to find time to write in a month that’s so demanding on us all. … I appreciate all the time you’ve sacrificed; NPI doesn’t happen without all of you. And I hope you’re able to join up again for the next NPI, which should be happening in March.

THE AWARDS:

Completionist Award:

Nick Enlowe
Julie K
Lisa

Highest Total Word Count Award: Nick Enlowe with 19,719!

Highest Word Count in a Single Day Award: Nick Enlowe with 2,940!

Highest Average Word Count Award: Merrilee Faber with 780.833!

Most Days of Reprieve Left-Over Award: Julie K with 1!

Most Consistent Writer Award: Lisa with 352/day over a period of 21 days!

THE GRAND TOTAL FOR THE MONTH: 73,176!!!

  1. This was fun. I like the laid back version, especially when going the whole month. Yay for everyone who made it the whole month, and yay for everyone who took up the challenge :)

  2. So glad you had fun! NPIs are so unpredictable and exciting. This was the second-highest grossing novel-push yet (the highest one broke 100k words).

  4. Yaaay! Most Consistent writer award! (I don’t normally win any awards) ;) So March is the next one!

I wonder what I’ll be like without the pressure, hrm…. we shall find out… I’ve still got #FridayFlash’s to think about…. count me in for the next round though!

  5. @Lisa: I look forward to it, glad you liked!
And I usually don’t win any awards, either. This is the first NPI I actually managed to be on top at the end, Merrilee would’ve beaten me otherwise ;)

  6. Fantastic work guys! Well done! And especially well done to the three who made it to the end. And congrats to Nick for making it to #1!

Looking forward to the next one in March.

Thanks Nick, as always, for running NPI :) Love it.
