The Final Final Tally for May’s Novel-Push Initiative…
*drum roll*
GRAND TOTAL: 100,285 words!
How’s that for an epic conclusion, we cracked 100k! A toast – *clink* – to a job well done. May you make great use of the raw materials you created and mold those words into a narrative masterpiece.

From doing two NPIs and observing the other participants along the way, I believe at this point that what NPI teaches us is Novels are Big. If we want to really reach the End of the Book in a reasonable amount of time, sometimes we have to let ourselves drift away from that safety net known as Research and Development. Sometimes, we have to write when we simply don’t feel like it.
NPI taught me how important it is to get into the habit of writing each and every day, keeping that wordcount bar moving.
And it taught me that we can get away with writing slow and steady (emphasis on the ‘steady’ part), still keep our social lives, and end up with monthly numbers comparable to that of professional writers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Congratulations to all of you who took the huge step in choosing to participate in such a challenging endeavor, and even if you didn’t make it all the way to the end, everybody ended up with terrific word counts for a single month.
Great job, everyone! :)
I hope your writing journeys this past month have been filled with rewarding experiences and revelations. And new friends.
@L: Not a bad idea, but we’d have to approach it carefully and calculate the group goal based on how many people participate.
This time, there was an unspoken group goal of 52,500: the minimum amount where everyone passes. I’m not sure if I should ask for any more than that, which is asking a lot already.
I fear asking for more could lead to people trying to overcompensate for others, which could lead to premature burn-out.
It was such fun pushing & encouraging Chris along the way. Also fun to see him stress over it occasionally, hehe. I’m so very proud of him, if it wasn’t for you, Nick.. Chris may have not started his novel yet!
Grats to you all! May you keep up this awesome work and complete a killer novel! :D
