NPI Day 26

The end of the month is so close.

So I guess I’ll be taking on NaNo later on in the year after all. We’ll have to see how well I work under a lot more pressure than NPI had to offer. NaNoWriMo’s daily deadlines are much like Bradbury’s coin-op typewriter. But, I won’t have to worry about that ‘til November.

  1. Perhaps the next time you do your NPI, you could increase the minimum word count to help acclimate participants toward the possibility of entering NaNo.

I’m currently doing this with my students; they are preparing for the AP English Literature exam, which asks them to write three completely different, well-organized and quality essays in two hours, which rounds out to about 40 minutes a piece. Lately, we’ve been providing scaffolding by giving them 40 minutes to write, but being able to use notes, or even the book, as reference. On Monday, they will have prior knowledge about the prompt, but this will be the first time they will be unable to actually have outside materials in front of them.

    Just an idea :)

  2. That’s a thought. Raising the wordcount is a possibility; I think it should only be a little bit. Like 300 words?
In the end, it’s really up to each one of us, you know? I’m worried that going too high will make us type without any damage control. And we’ll end up with slush-pile material and a whole lot of burn-out along the way.
Which is, incidently, exactly what I expect my NaNo experience to be like: Very slushy.
