Novel Push Initiative: Halfway there!

Here we are at March 15th already. Great job!

This is the moment of truth. Can we continue to write each day beyond the two-week point? It gets tougher and tougher from here on out. … Can we go the full thirty-one days?

I know that if I can write my quota today, I’ll have broken my own personal record.

With that in mind, today is that special day—the threshold which must be broken!

1.
packsister:

Packsister is still in it, plugging away at her werewolf novel. In fact, she’s broken the 10k mark! Let’s see how she’s doing:

Tally:

Previous Total WC: 8,232.
March…
10th: Check-in @ 335 words.
11th: Check-in @ 416 words.
12th: Tougher-than-NaNo @ 2,033 words.
13th: Update @ 1,002 words.
14th: Check-in @ 250 words.

Total so far: 12,268!

Again, her total is humbling. She even surpassed 2,000 words on the 12th.

Packsister’s been writing for years and has realized her writing style doesn’t match up with NPI very well, and that’s fine. She has her own method, and I’ve seen that method work very well for her.

She said she may need time to stop writing at this point, to step back and  think more about her scenes. I hope she sticks with it, but if she decides to drop out, I’ll understand. This event is supposed to be fun, exciting, and encouraging. I don’t want her to feel like her writing is being forced. And I certainly don’t want her to feel like she’s not have fun while writing.

If nothing else, I hope she finds that all of what she’s written so far this month turns out to be useful to her. What she’s done is no small feat. Just think: Many, many, many self-proclaimed novelists will never write this many words on a single project in their entire lives.

No matter what happens, I hope she keeps checking in here and cheering RG and I on.

2.
RG Sanders:

And the Stars Ran Red seems to be coming along great as well. Let’s see how he’s doing:

Tally:

Previous Total WC: 6,081.
10th: Check-in @ 391 words.
11th: Update @ 1,213 words.
12th: Check-in @ 455 words.
13th: Check-in @ 468 words.
14th: Check-in @ 639 words.

Total so far: 9,247!

RG Sanders is about to break the 10k mark! That’s about 5k words per week. Not too shabby! His writing keeps surprising him. And his scenes keep working in ways he didn’t expect.

Part of the joy of writing is watching your creations metamorphose in unpredictable ways. It’s an incomparable feeling.

I’m glad he’s been sharing those moments with us in his blog.

3.
Nick Enlowe:

Five Rings continues.

My laptop seems to be behaving again, but I’m still typing at my desktop computer. I’m going to give writing on my laptop a try this Tuesday, when I meet up with a writing group for the first time ever. Should be interesting.

Previous Total WC: 4,838.
10th: Check-in @ 295 words.
11th: Check-in @ 329 words.
12th: Check-in @ 567 words.
13th: Check-in @ 985 words.
14th: Check-in @ 325 words.

Total so far: 7,339!

I think I could break 10k during the next five days. I’ve been writing as much as I feel comfortable with, and, to be honest, it feels pretty good. A minimum of 250 words per day feels like real progress at a comfortable level. No complaints.

I’m even starting to think of specifics to the events in books 2 and 3. Yeah, I’m excited. The sooner I get to them (lack-of-quality notwithstanding), the better.

Oh! And thanks sooo much to Latrina, christopher, OS, G, and everyone else for being so encouraging through all of this.

  1. I feel a bit bad for quitting, because usually when I do something, I stick with it to the end. I’ve hardly ever abandoned projects in my life, even if it were sorting beans. But as I grew out of my teens, I had to realise there are things in life I sometimes need to quit to make it better, to spare myself a little. This is one of those times, and I will be working on this book until it’s finished, I’ll give it a title at some point as well. But not in this months. Maybe I’ll be better prepared towards summer, and I’ll try again. But right now I can’t keep doing it. And I’m really sorry, seeing how I feel that my quitting is probably not very encouraging. I really do hope you guys will stick to it till the end and I’ll definitely be here, cheering you on! It’s already become my habit to check your and RG’s updates every morning, and I’ll continue doing so. Really sorry I won’t be a part of this, but one has to be true to their heart, right?

  2. By the way, I find it really funny how I am the one with the highest word count and quit. Heh. Keep up, guys, maybe you’ll beat my score after another week or so! ;)

  3. You, of course, have my graces. But you aren’t officially out of the game yet, ‘not til tomorrow. ;)

And don’t worry; We’ll beat your score.
…Did I mention there’s a 100,000 bonus score for completing the month? hehe.
