Through the gates

Another very short scene; it ties together the brief flashbacks with the current storyline nicely.
As Cirellio goes through the gate customs, he finds he was expected—something very unusual. The gatesman passes a message to him from Lord Gazic ordering him to return to Aydomar immediately. Cirellio ignores the message and continues into the city of Shiira. There are also posters everywhere for the Feast of the Eight, an event happening later that night.

((Random facts and numerology ;P-> Long ago, I had decided to make the numbers 3, 5, and 7 important to the story—because odd numbers have a definitive center. For instance, 3′s middle is ’2′. 7′s middle is ’4′. Etc. Yin and yang battle around a center, ’2′; there are 5 rings with the center being physical reality: ’3′.

It helps support the theme of ‘stability’.

Here, I use ’7′ for the size of the original Shiirati Council. This event is called the ‘Feast of the Eight’ because an 8th seat was added to the council for an outsider who was instrumental to their victory after a war with the Northern Alliance. Shiira’s flag has a starburst reaching in eight directions. The northern direction, however, is considered bad luck. Celebrations happen at night in Shiira because during the day, it is too hot to don anything but light-colored hooded clothing. They can ‘let loose’ at night and dress however they want, so stars are a very important symbol of their culture.))

With scene 6 written, I’ve come to what I presume to be the end of chapter 1.

I’ve also added an additional part to the prologue—a description of Asyria’s seven rays projection.

  1. Congratulations on getting a rough bit of chapter one finished! It appears as if you’re flying through the process — which, I believe, can be attributed to your meticulous planning.
    Kudos :)

  2. ^ I totally agree. I can’t believe you’re just about finished with the first chapter already. It sounds fantastic. I’m honestly, and I’m not trying to be some weird fan or whatever, so looking forward to reading your book. You’ve created a whole new world, it’s awesome. I love stories like that. I’m a huge video gamer as well, so I’m digging the whole fantasy thing lately. :)

  5. Oh wow. I have tons, I just know I’m going to leave some out if I attempt to list them. But here are the ones from the top of my head:

    1. Final Fantasy X, 12 and Crystal Chronicles (I always wanted to play some of the older ones though)
    2. Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, and the ones for original gameboy. (always wanted to play the others as well)
    3. Dark Cloud 1 and 2.
    4. Mostly ALL the Marios. :D Especially the old school Mario.
    5. Metal Gear Solid 3
    6. Guitar Hero 2 and Rock Band.
    7. Oh, and World of Warcraft. :P

I rarely have the time to play games anymore though. It’s certainly one of my favorite past times. I started gaming when I was 4 when my mom and I would play Mario and Sega’s Sonic. Good times.

  6. Oh, and Fable is a game that I always wanted to play as well. My fiancee, Chris, played the first one and it looked so damn cool.

  7. yay! a v-games discussion :D And people with similar tastes to me!

-I never got terribly into Fable. I think at the time it came out, I was drawn into Knights of the Old Republic. I’ve heard Fable: The Lost Chapters was a big improvement. I’d be willing to give Fable II a try.
-Final Fantasy X, XII, CC; I think you know what my opinions are on those! The only FF’s I haven’t beaten were FF II (got to the black mage tower), FF Tactics, FF CC:Ring of Fates, and FF V (got to the Cleft of Dimension). I really need to conquer those! Yes, I’ve actually cleared X-2, Legend III, Mystic Quest, and many of the other oddballs and black sheep of the franchise. Oh, and FFXI(online), I was a lvl 50 white mage ;p
-Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, I had actually gotten the fog cleared up on the Northwestern corner of the map, but for some reason, I stopped playing there. I’ve been through most of the rest of the Zeldas, and I think you’ll be happy to know my favorite one to this day is Legend of Zelda IV: The Wind Waker, followed closely by the original :) Zelda V: Ocarina of Time is also a ‘must play’.
-I never got a chance to play the original Dark Cloud, but I do own DC2 and enjoyed it immensely.
-Mostly all the Marios? Hm. I’d say my favorite is still divided between 1, 3, and World. I enjoyed 64 immensely, but Sunshine and Galaxy were not what I was expecting. There’s so many games with the Jumpman, and I’ve played almost all of ‘em ;D
-MGS3! Yes! I cry every time I watch the ending. I have the Director’s Cut with all the silly extra scenes and the movie mode.
-Guitar Hero and Rock Band I never got into, because I had already played Konami’s Guitar Freaks series years prior. :) That said, I’m a big fan of rhythm games. I imported Beatmania 1st Mix back in 1998-9. I loved the DDR series and Para Para Paradise the best.
-World of Warcraft I couldn’t get into. I totally figured I’d fall in love with that game, too, because I fell madly in love with EverQuest when it came out. I made a Tauren Shaman that lasted to lvl 16, then I tried again later with a Nightelf Druid that lived to about lvl 22.

  8. Wow, you’re such a huge nerd. :P
Nah, seriously. Nice taste in games! I applaud you.

I never got into Knights of the Old Republic but it looks really cool, my brother-in-law plays it. Very impressive on the FFs. I seriously wish I had the time (I’ll make some someday) to play all the FF’s. I wanted to play FFXI Online but that was around the time I was playing World of Warcraft I believe. And WoW takes a lot of dedication. I don’t play any more but I’m planning on picking it back up. :P At least you tried it! Although a lvl 16 and 22 isn’t nothing to brag about. hehe Especially since I have 3 lvl 70s. /flex Also nothing to be bragging about. (not many people know of my true v-game nerdiness)

Dark Cloud 1 was cool but 2 was soo much better. They pretty much took everything wrong with the first one and made it even better in the second. :) It’s one of my faves.

And I should have mentioned that the last Mario game I bought was Mario Party 5. I also have Sunshine which was actually really fun when playing with my boyfriend, taking turns beating lvls, but it’s one of the latest Marios I own. I enjoy 64 and all the older ones like you’ve mentioned. 1, 3 and World are my favorites. True classics.

MGS3 is such a weird game because it’s the only shooting game I have ever gotten in to (besides Mario Duck Hunt!). I give credit to my boyfriend for that one. I never beaten it but I LOVED playing it. He plays other first & third person shooter games that I always wanted to pick up. Like Red Dead Resolver & TFC. So tempted.

Whoa, I have never heard of or seen those rhythm games you’ve mentioned. :O Those are so bad ass. You are quite old school.

  9. hey I’m not tryin to hide who I am. ;D
    I love me some videogames!
MGS3 can be goofy at times, but it has such a touching story—if you ever feel like getting to the end, I promise it’s well worth it.
THREE level 70′s in WoW??? Crazy!! I bet you kick some serious monster butt! ^__^

  10. Oh hell yes I did. Just picture a lvl 70 female gnome (warlock) in pig-tails running around killing everything. That’s me! :D

And I’ll defiantly make time to finish MGS3. Never realized how good the story was, but now that I think about it, for a shooting game, the story was pretty awesome. Now you’re making me want to play!

Oh, and I apologize for spamming your blog with video game talk. :P

  11. spamming? no way! have you ever belonged to a messageboard community where the mods immediately lock posts just because they have gotten off-topic? I always thought that was ridiculous. If the conversation naturally moves in a different direction, I say let it be!
