This journal is mainly to share my creative process. Posting things like ‘rules’ here helps me come to final decisions, refine and canonize ideas, and frankly, I use this website as a companion source for reference to my own digital information stash.

I mentioned here a few months ago that I’d written some chapters. Back when I was actually writing them (nearly eight months ago), I slowly came to the realization they weren’t good enough for me. I have high hopes for this story; that this work becomes more than the sum of its parts; that the characters feel ‘real’ and the motives make blood-boiling sense. That’s when I knew I had to go back to the drawing board and try harder.

Unfortunately, most publishers feel posting book chapters online is ‘publishing’ (a sample chapter is usally okay, though) and hurts chances of getting an agent to try to sell your work. Even if it was purchased at that point, it would have to be sold as a reprint.

And, sadly, there are the many badniks out there that look for finished products to steal and promote themselves. The poetry and small snippets I post on here are things I could fairly easily create more of in the event they got stolen. But if a book is under dispute, no publisher wants to purchase a book and get in the middle of a legal battle. While the courts play ‘Who’s the real author?’ for months or even years, well, I’ve met some people who have gone through that, sadly.

Interesting build and expansion on your previous work, but I have a question. Is this all helping you write – continue on and what have you – or do you find your romance with the ‘foundation’ of the details is taking you away from the creation itself?

I just want your view, as I have been guilty of falling into the haphazard world of building instead of creating.
